Debra Duwyenie is an enrolled member of Santa Clara Pueblo. She learned pottery making in the 70’s with the help of her grandmother Petra Gutierrez, Mother Genevieve Gutierrez, and neighbor and friend, Dolly Naranjo Neikrug. Debra has worked full time on her pottery since 1996 after leaving employment with the Institute of American Indian Arts. Debra also collaborates with husband, Preston Duwyenie. Debra does all the sgraffito work into the clay before they are fired, always taking a chance that the pot will make it through the firing. Preston will make a silver lid to add uniqueness to the seed pot. Debra has won numerous awards at the Santa Fe Indian Market, Heard Indian Fair, and was also honored to win “Best of Show” at the 2010 Eight Northern Indian Pueblos art show.
